City Council members were treated to a sneak peek of Amite's Downtown District Revitalization Plan on March 23rd as planning consultant Dana Brown, of Brown+Danos Landdesign Inc., previewed the draft plan to renew Amite's Downtown District.
Home to the Amite Oyster Festival and Tangipahoa Parish Fair, Amite City offers citizens the amenities of a large city while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of rural life. The Northshore Community Foundation has been working with the city to preserve and increase its charm using a bold strategy and forward looking vision.
The Downtown District Revitalization Plan will establish the vital, yet flexible framework for a sustainable, smart future. Developing the plan is a critical step in expanding the town’s economic role while protecting and enhancing its rich cultural and ecological resources. The plan is a resource for the community to use when considering development proposals, obtaining grants, and prioritizing community needs.
After a brief review, the Council is expected to formally adopt the plan, which will mark the beginning of the plan's Implementation Phase.
