West 30's Revitalization

• NCF is leading the effort to provide $130,000 - $150,000 for the creation of a Neighborhood Revitalization Plan for Covington’s “West 30s” Neighborhood. • The planning process will actively engage the community leaders and citizens in the West 30s Neighborhood so that the project will be well focused and successful. • Due to Hurricane Katrina damage; due to disinvestment; due to disinterest from within and without, a need exists for a Neighborhood Revitalization Plan in the West 30s that will end the cycle of neglect and disinterest, create a vibrant community with a strong “sense of place”, a strong sense of community pride, and bring hope back to the area.

Hammond Plan

• The Foundation has granted $75,000 to Hammond, which the city is matching to create a master plan for the city. Based on smart growth principles, the blueprint for growth is expected to spark a community where people can live, work and play without relying as much on their automobiles. • Recovering from Katrina remains a top priority in our region and these funds will allow our communities to build using plans created by the best designers and planners in the nation.

St. Helena Parish

• The Northshore Community Foundation is providing a $20,000 grant that will be matched by St. Helena to create a comprehensive parish plan for community and economic development. Based on smart growth principles, the plan will offer recommendations for the developing infrastructure, recreation, workforce housing, transportation and open spaces, among other things.

Amite City – Downtown District Redevelopment Plan. - The Northshore Community Foundation has granted $25,000 to Amite, which the city is matching to create a Downtown District Redevelopment Plan. Based on smart growth principles, the plan is expected to revitalize Amite’s main street and urban core, fostering a walkable community with places to live, work and play all within a five-minute walk.
