Florida Marine Transporters, a fundholder at the Foundation, held their annual golf tournament recently which raised more than $158,000 to directly benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Thanks to generous donors like FMT, families never receive a bill from St. Jude who treats more than 8,500 sick children every year and has a reputation of excellence in advancing cures, prevention, and treatment of kids with cancer.

As well as delivering this direct treatment, the hospital heavily focuses on research with the goal of increasing the survival rate from 80% to 100%, which in turn helped Margaret Larsen, a scholarship recipient at the Foundation who has cancer.

Completing the circle of philanthropy, Margaret, who is studying at Rhodes College with the help of a scholarship from the St. Tammany Cancer Fund, applied for and has been awarded a fellowship with St. Jude to research malignant rhabdoid tumors to help improve treatments for cancer patients like herself. We love this story.
